When the project of a sale becomes clearer, putting a final end to Yves Saint Laurent’s creative period, there is no sadness. Though a lot of emotions surround the legendary sale of Pierre Bergé and the fashion designer’s private collection, it must be lived as the beginning of a new story, not as a “scattering of efforts”. Pierre Bergé warns us that he doesn’t want to keep this treasure of objects of all kinds wrapped in cellophane and sets the bar high: “these pieces must go and live again!” Our briefing is clear: we have to turn the page and give a new life to these beloved and memory-rich objects! As the passion of the two collectors must continue to express itself through the items at the auction, we work directly with Pierre Bergé in an almost family way. Our agency works in close proximity with each lot in the privacy and the magic of Yves Saint Laurent’s apartment. What a contrast between this secret world and the gigantic space of the Grand Palais selected for the sale. Yet, it is the atmosphere and the intimacy of the YSL dressmaking salon we are seeking to recreate, in this impressive large Nave -which remains-, since then, one of our favourite spaces.
