With his series of drawings and his taste for small formats (barely legible but rich in emotion as are often reputedly difficult small-sized documents), Jean Cocteau leads us to inventiveness. How can one offer a global presentation without imposing a tedious consultation? For this exhibition, and for the numerous others to come, we have invented a principle of “flip through display cabinet” which delivers the series as a continuous movement of the artist’s or writer’s hand (unlike ordinary showcases which highlight each showpiece, making it unique). In its depth, the layering of our transparent flip through technique expresses the idea of accumulation. We like to stage the display cabinets; it is an exercise in style which can become the thread of an exhibition. These “boxes”, - whose assets are far greater than a simple response to security or preservation standards of the works - are offered in a variety of forms, including vertical! This is the reason why, through the exhibitions, we are now in a very confident frame of mind when we “lay” great men such as Beckett, Barthes, Artaud or Sartre “in a display cabinet”. Besides, from its inception, our flip through display cabinet has been patented.
